How to : Stay Positive!

Updated: Jul 22, 2021

A lot of people have told me that I am exceptionally cheerful always. Sometimes so much that it gets annoying!

Life as we know, isn't always a big fat road made of rainbows and unicorn dust, it is that, and some sad gloomy days too. The path to positivity though isn't a straight road. Its a zig zag road, a road that requires practice, self love, and a little bit of patience.

1. Talk to Someone You Trust

The most important thing I feel and do when I am feeling low is talk to a friend or my parents, or basically anyone that I trust and can talk to. When you are feeling glum your brain tends to only think negative thoughts. Talking to someone you trust, a friend, a parent. or a therapist, helps with bringing in a new perspective. Life indeed only requires a little spark of hope, for things to turn around.

2. Meditate

Meditation is my secret weapon when it comes to my mental health, or when I have to make major life decisions. I have been meditating since I didn't even realize/know what meditation was. When I was younger, and stressed about anything, I went to the gurudwara, sat there quietly for an hour and then go back home. I felt refreshed, and very calm afterwards.

Currently I use a meditation app called Headspace, it helped me begin my meditation journey. You can download it from the link below.

If you don't want to commit to purchasing an app you can always use Youtube for guided meditation. If you are a beginner, or someone who loves music, you can meditate with music on, there is plenty of meditation music available on Youtube.

3. Do Something Creative

This one is my favourite. I love colouring. I grab a few coloured pencils, an adult colouring book and scribble my way out of a bad mood, and that's it!

4. Affirmations

I strongly believe in the power of manifestation and what better way of manifesting positivity than 'words'. I had a habit of using negative language, until my best friend pointed it out to me. I then consciously began using more positive words in my speech, which in turn changed the way I see things now.

I chant positive affirmation, just like Buddhists chant to help themselves in their daily life.

My favourite affirmations are below.

  1. I am strong and capable.

  2. My dreams are possible.

  3. I am peaceful.

  4. I am limitless.

  5. I am blessed.

  6. I believe in myself.

Always remember you are stronger than your obstacles. You can always push through. Always.
